I haven't seen anything about this, since I don't watch Fox news I guess. But some of my more Right Wing friends expressed "outrage" over what Obama did on Memorial Day.
I'm not sure what they though he did. But he actually made two appearances that day.
I thought they disliked the Memorial Day choices that the Obama made (speaking at the memorial day ceremonies at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois and at Joint Base Andrews in DC). I thought they were upset that he did those two appearances instead of attending the ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. He attended the Arlington ceremonies last year.
In 2002 George W. participated in ceremonies at Normandy instead of Arlington. The other seven years he attended the Arlington ceremonies.
Bill Clinton attended Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington each year throughout his eight years in office.
George H.W. Bush attended no ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery during his four years in office.
In 1989 he was in Rome on Memorial Day (where he led observances at an American military cemetery south of that city), and from 1990 through 1992 he spent the Memorial Day weekend vacationing in Kennebunkport, Maine, while Vice-President Dan Quayle laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
So Obama's choice is not out of the ordinary for the last few Presidents, and better (by their terms) than most of George H.W.'s record.
Was there some misinformation out there in the Right Wing Media, or some viral wing-nuttery claiming that Obama did no commemoration of Memorial Day?
